Brighton, Ill. — The American Society of Agricultural Consultants (ASAC) will present its next #CultivatingResiliency webinar, "Common Traits of Highly Successful Farm Transitions," featuring ASAC member Mike Downey of UnCommon Farms. The live webinar is free and open to both members and non-members.

Registration is now open at: https://www.agconsultants.org/asac_webinars.php

Downey, who leads the Succession Planning program at UnCommon Farms, will share key strategies and real-world examples from his extensive work helping family farms plan and implement smooth, successful transitions. UnCommon Farms, based in Brighton, Illinois, provides consulting services for farm businesses in strategic planning, management, human resources, financials, succession and risk management.

“Family farms are at a critical crossroads right now. We are about to experience the largest transfer of land and assets in agricultural history," Downey said. "Having the right plan in place can make the difference between a farm that thrives for another generation and one that fades away. I’m passionate about helping families make that transition with confidence, and I’m excited to share practical strategies that work.”

Downey also contributes to Farm Futures’ More than Dirt blog, offering insights on succession and family business management.

The event is part of the American Society of Agricultural Consultants' yearlong #CultivatingResiliency series designed to provide actionable education and support for agricultural professionals.

"Helping farm families navigate transition planning is one of the most vital services an agricultural consultant can provide today," said American Society of Agricultural Consultants President Dave Mielnicki. "ASAC is proud to offer timely, relevant education like this webinar, not only for our members but for anyone passionate about preserving the future of agriculture."

Webinar Topics Will Include:

  • Key traits of successful multi-generational farm transitions
  • How to improve family communication during succession planning
  • Financial and legal structures that support long-term stability
  • Real-world examples of both successful and failed transitions
  • Tips for involving trusted advisors early in the process

A live Q&A session with Downey will follow the presentation.
