Floyd Wilcox & Sons, dba Wilcox Fresh, a leading grower of Idaho russet potatoes, is expanding its product portfolio to include fingerling potatoes via the acquisition of Southwind Farms.

Wilcox Fresh was established in Rexburg, ID, in 1948 by Floyd Wilcox shortly after his sons returned home from World War II. In 2023, Wilcox Fresh will celebrate its 75th anniversary and will continue its legacy of land stewardship, innovation and hard work to provide the finest-quality Idaho potatoes to an ever-expanding base of retail and foodservice customers throughout the United States and abroad.

Wilcox is owned by Lynn, Terry and Ron Wilcox, who are excited about the future growth and expansion of the company their grandfather started 75 years ago, according to Derek Peterson, vice president of sales and operations for Wilcox Fresh.

Southwind Farms located in Heyburn, ID, is a well-established grower and shipper of Idaho fingerling potatoes. The company has experienced monumental growth and brand recognition over the past 20 plus years as owners Robert Tominaga, Rod Lake and Jerry Tominaga grew their farm and business from just four acres of fingerlings in the late 1990s to nearly 700 acres, with a state-of-the-art packing facility.

As the new owner, Wilcox Fresh is looking forward to continuing the Southwind Farms tradition of growth and quality that Southwind is so well known for in the industry. Southwind Farms daily operations personnel will continue to operate the business, providing a seamless transition.

“The fusion of these two companies will provide our customers with a first-class experience of quality, innovation and dependability that’s unrivalled in the potato industry,” said Peterson. “Our hope is that we, as leaders, can move our industry forward and provide solutions to our new and existing customers. Furthermore, we want to extend our love and appreciation to our customers for their support and trust given over these past 75 years and the many years still yet to come.”
