Chelsea, Mass.-based Arrowfarms companies Morning Kiss Organic and Gold Bell are introducing new, fully compostable paper bag potato packaging.

“Our new bags, which are fully compostable at home, fulfill a strong consumer demand for sustainable packaging,” Michael Guptill of Morning Kiss Organic, said in a news release. “We hope that retailers will join us in this effort to increase sustainable packaging offerings in stores, and we hope this initiative will give consumers extra incentive to add potatoes to their shopping carts.”

According to the release, the new potato packaging bags are made of two-ply paper, with compostable glue used around the window of the bag.

Made from sugarcane, the mesh window itself also is compostable, according to the release. Morning Kiss Organic will offer organic gold, russet, and red potatoes in the new packaging. Gold Bell will offer conventional gold and russet potatoes sold under the brand name Morning Gold.
