The final numbers are in for the 2018 potato crop in North Dakota.

The 2018 potato crop in North Dakota totaled 23.7 million hundredweight, down 3 percent from 2017 according to USDA’s National Agricultural Statistics Service. 

  • Planted potato acres in North Dakota for 2018 totaled 74,500.
  • The value of potatoes sold from the 2018 crop totaled $206 million, down 1 percent from 2017.
  • In Minnesota, 2018 potato production totaled 18.7 million hundredweight, up 2 percent from 2017. 
  • The state’s potato growers planted 44,000 acres, which is down 2,000 acres from the 2017 crop.
  • Average yield per acre, at 430 hundredweight, was up 6 percent from the previous year. 
  • The total value of production of the state’s potato crop was up from $173 million in 2017 to $180 million in 2018.
