Fresh Solutions Network will be launching its new Side Delights Farmer’s Table Organic Russet single-wrapped, microwaveable potato—a line extension to the Farmer’s Table Organic potato lineup. The launch will take place at the Organic Produce Summit trade show, July 12-13 in Monterey, Calif. The sold-out expo features 120 top producers of organic fresh fruits and vegetables, and more than 75 key retail/buying organizations will be attending.
Organic products are now available in nearly three out of four conventional grocery stores, and often carry price premiums, which help retailers increase dollar sales. Fresh fruits and vegetables have been the top-selling category of all organic foods for more than 30 years, and continue to outsell other food categories. More specifically, organic potato growth outpaces the total category, driven by expansion of items offered, and experienced a 17.8 percent increase in distribution over last year.
“The organic foods category continues to grow, and potatoes are a sweet spot,” says Kathleen Triou, president and CEO of Fresh Solutions Network. “Our microwaveable organic single potato will appeal to both organic shoppers and millennials, who have become an increasingly important consumer base.”
Statistics confirm that the organic category is hot with millennials, who purchase natural/organic food most frequently, with about 60 percent of their food baskets containing half or more natural/organic products. While this segment is embracing cooking at home, they also embrace convenience, historically spending less than 20 minutes a day on food preparation and cleanup.
“We are excited about the launch of the new Side Delights Farmer’s Table Organic Russet single-wrapped, microwaveable potato,” says Triou. “This is the first product I know of to address two growing trends—organics and convenience. Just because you shop organic doesn’t mean you have more time to cook.”
Side Delights Farmers Table potatoes are 100 percent, non-GMO, USDA- and state-certified organic. The full Farmer’s Table line also includes designs for red, yellow and russet potato varieties.
