Wisconsin Growers to Meet

The Wisconsin Potato & Vegetable Growers Association will hold its annual meeting and educational conference Feb. 3-5 at the Holiday Inn Hotel and Convention Center in Stevens Point, Wis.

The three-day event begins at 7:30 a.m. Tuesday, Feb. 3, with registration. Topics that day include:

  • Well-drilling-permit applications and environmental impacts
  • Fumigation delivery and alternatives
  • The value of neonicotinoid insecticides
  • Insect-resistance management
  • Pollinator health

Multiple seminars will take place in the afternoon. The day ends with a Wisconsin Seed Potato Improvement Association and Associate Division reception at 4:30 p.m.

On Feb. 4, there will be an update from the U.S. Potato Board and the Natural Resources Conservation Service on nutrient management and 590 Standards. Well-siting challenges are another topic, along with an update on the Little Plover River Project and Central Sands hydrology. The afternoon brings multiple educational seminars. The growers’ annual banquet will take place from 6 to 10 p.m., including awards.

The Feb. 5 sessions start at 8 a.m. with new strategies and varieties in the University of Wisconsin breeding program, timing on nitrogen inputs for potatoes, precision management of nematodes and more. At 1 p.m., the Wisconsin Potato & Vegetable Growers Association will hold its annual meeting.
