The grower-produced "Washington Grown" television series is expanding to public television stations.
The 30-minute program developed by the Washington Association of Wheat Growers and Washington State Potato Commission begins airing on PBS affiliates Jan. 6.
"Washington Grown" will air on PBS at 7:30 p.m. Mondays and 4:30 p.m. Saturdays.
The program will continue to air through June on Northwest Cable News on Sundays at noon and 8:30 p.m.
The show blends informational segments about Washington farms with a "foodie flair" to appeal to customers, featuring restaurants, bakeries and other food-related businesses.
"The goal is to connect the food we eat with the farmers who grow it, and educate consumers about how food is grown in our state," the organizations stated in a press release.
Plans for Season 2, which is slated to air beginning in October, are under way.
"Washington Grown" is a project of the Washington Farmers and Ranchers Coalition, which is made up of farm groups around the state, including Washington Friends of Farms and Forests, Washington State Seed Potato Commission and Washington Wheat Foundation. Funding is also provided by the Washington Grain Commission.
