PVMI, the Potato Variety Management Institution, has recently sent checks totaling almost $166,000 to the institutions that comprise the Tri-State University Research and Breeding Program. These are University of Idaho, Oregon State University, Washington State University and the Agricultural Research Service.

The funds are the result of royalties collected from potato seed growers on the PVP varieties it manages for the Tri-State Program. These include Alturas, Classic Russet, Ivory Crisp, Alpine Russet, Mazama, among others.

This amount adds to the $500,000 already contributed during the previous three years for a total of nearly $666,000 in royalties and licensing that has been sent back to the program to support research.

The amount of contribution to the universities is less this year than last, although the amount of royalties collected during the last fiscal year exceeded previous years.
