The World Potato Congress is looking for a host for its 8th world convention in 2012.

The 7th world congress is scheduled for Christchurch, New Zealand, March 22-25, 2009. Other venues for the six previous congresses were Charlottetown, Canada (1993), Harrogate, United Kingdom (1994), Durban, South Africa (1997), Amsterdam, Netherlands (2000), Kunming, China (2004), and Boise, United States (2006).

The Charlottetown-based group says it now is accepting "expressions of interest" from potato organizations internationally about hosting the 8th World Potato Congress.

"Typically 500-800 delegates attend the World Potato Congress, an event that highlights developments in industry, economics, science and environment as they pertain to the international potato world," congress general manager John Coady says.
