The Western Growers transportation program, formed by C.H. Robinson and Western Growers, is celebrating its 10-year anniversary in 2016.

The founding organizations, along with several other organizations, partnered to host a national Giving Day on Aug. 24 in honor of the milestone, according to a news release.

The product and monetary donations from the Giving Day were given to Feeding America locations across the country and provided 250,000 meals to Americans in need.

Thirty companies and organizations contributed to the Giving Day, including the California Fresh Fruit Association, Idaho Grower Shippers Association, National Onion Association, Texas International Produce Association, Fresh Produce Association of America, Florida Fruit & Vegetable Association, and Georgia Fruit & Vegetable Growers Association.

In the release, C.H. Robinson general manager Luke Gowdy praised the program’s 10 years of success in helping grower-shippers improve their supply chain logistics.

“Thank you to the generous grower-shippers who donated product and monetary donations,” said Matt McInerney, senior executive president of Western Growers, in the release. “It is rewarding to see how these donations will impact local communities and bring fresh produce to those who may not have easy access to it.”
