The USDA announced the restart of its Biomass Crop Assistance Program (BCAP) this summer. Farmers, ranchers and forest landowners who are interested in growing and harvesting biomass for renewable energy are eligible.

Reauthorized through the 2014 Farm Bill, BCAP offers a rebate covering the cost associated with harvesting and transporting crops including diseased or infected wood, orchard waste and corn residue to a USDA-approved facility. Energy facilities can currently renew or apply for their BCAP status. BCAP proposals will be solicited this summer through fall, with new project area announcements and enrollments beginning in spring 2016.
