Association secretary Jaswinder Singh Sangha says shipments from the districts in the state of Punjab in northwest India are being delayed as a result and may opt for "rail rook" agitation.

Rail Roko means to block the railway lines and stop the trains, a former of action used in India to draw the attention of the government to an issue.

"Although, we had booked as many as 30 train racks for supplying potatoes to the states including Assam, West Bengal and Karnataka, not even a single rack has been provided to us so far," he says.

Jaswinder says potato growers, who are already facing an acute financial crisis due to a bumper crop, will face further losses if consignments can't be shipped on time.
