Hirai Farms / Annie's Fun have donated 105,000 pounds of potatoes to key food banks in Washington state.

Blaine Hirai, owner of Hirai Farms and chairman of Annie's Fun, played a major role in putting together the donation.

Washington State Senator Chris Marr (D-Spokane) says those in the community who are struggling to feed themselves and their families will get a break thanks to the gesture.

"While these are hard times for everybody, the fact the potatoes will be delivered before Thanksgiving makes it even more special," Marr says.

Hirai Farms has been a family-owned and -operated business in Washington since 1954.

In 2005 the Hirai family created "Annie's Fun," a non-profit, charitable organization named after Blaine's mother, to help those in need.

"In today's economic climate, it is getting increasingly difficult for many people to feed their families," Hirai says.

"When I was told various food banks needed food, I felt that as a farmer it was important I do something to help. I am glad to support key food banks in Washington state that are helping to provide food to those in need."
