Potato Management Committee met Wednesday night in Idaho Falls, ID, to discuss a possible potato diversion.

No decisions were made. Attendance was down because so many growers, especially in the upper Snake River Valley, are going full-bore in the fields.

A survey of growers is planned in the coming days to get feedback.

Because of drastic contract cuts of an estimated 25,000 acres in the Magic Valley of southern Idaho, a warning has been made for the entire North American potato industry to plant cautiously.

As to the 2002 crop still in storage, nothing has been decided and no decision is expected for at least a week.
