The Carne Ofertas chain of supermarkets in Mexicali, Mexico, recently contacted the USPB Mexico Rep to help them source U.S. table-stock potatoes. With the assistance provided, they were able to make contact with a U.S. shipper and began importing directly, resulting in a reduction in their price of roughly $1 per kilo. As a result of this lower cost, sales of U.S. potatoes have now increased 25 percent, and the chain is hoping to expand its offerings of US potato varieties.
