Canada Fresh Growers Slighted?

Now that the processing industry makes up more than 50 percent of the Prince Edward Island, Canada, potato industry, the seed- and table-stock sectors believe they are being neglected.

Growers continue to lobby for separate representation for needed legislation.

Ivan Noonan, PEI Potato Board, said he is offering a plan. He will survey growers to see if there is enough interest to pursue the issue.

In the meantime, PEI officials believe there are far too many potatoes left in storage for a good market.
