The Idaho Potato Commission (IPC) has updated its website, www.idahopotato.com, with a new design and improvements for smartphone viewing.

“It still contains the same useful information, but it’s much easier to navigate,” Frank Muir, IPC president and CEO, said in a news release. “It allows folks to share their favorite recipes across several social media channels, and it has a more contemporary look.”

Those channels include Facebook, Pinterest, Twitter and Instagram.

A more photo-centered layout features full-screen graphics and a pop-up feature that suggests recipes visitors might like based on their current search.

Use of data from Google Analytics helped identify the site’s most popular sections, which the updated site makes more prominent and easier to find. There is also improved compatibility with search engines, according to the IPC.

Another new feature is a Pinterest-inspired design for the recipe database. The interactive database features more than 1,000 ways to prepare potatoes and offers a variety of tools to search for recipes based on ingredients, preparation, occasion and seasonality. It also features heart-healthy and gluten-free categories.

Since the update’s launch, more than half of all website visitors have spent time viewing potato recipes. The site is kept current with news and other information.

According to a recent survey by the Pew Research Institute, 64 percent of American adults have a smartphone, up from 35 percent in 2011. That trend helped motivate the website redesign.
