Price is an inherently important piece when marketing any product, and potatoes are no exception to that. Fresh potatoes have experienced considerable price fluctuations over recent years and volume has seemed to follow a similar roller coaster.

In order to better understand how consumer demand for potatoes fluctuates in the face of pricing shifts, the U.S. Potato Board commissioned the Nielsen Perishables Group to conduct a comprehensive price elasticity study on the potato category. The study comprises more than five years of U.S. retail sales data, and includes more than 800,000 sales records.

The USPB and Nielsen Perishables Group will be presenting full study findings on two separate webinars. In order to bridge the gap between insights and action, the USPB will also debut a new, interactive tool to the industry, designed to help growers, shippers and processers plan internally and better facilitate conversations with retailers around optimal pricing strategies. The webinars will include training on how to use the tool.

USPB and Nielsen Perishables Group will be presenting the full study findings and training on the interactive tool on two separate webinars:

  • Session A: Tuesday, Oct. 28 at 12: p.m. EST
  • Session B: Thursday, Oct. 30 at 3: p.m. EST
