Last week, National Potato Council (NPC) Executive Vice President and CEO John Keeling met with Mexico's Ambassador to the United States Arturo Sarukhan to discuss access to the Mexican potato market for fresh U.S. potatoes.

NPC requested the meeting to highlight the reasons why expanded potato trade between the countries was warranted based on a scientific evaluation of the phytosanitary risks and to underscore the mutual value of reaching an agreement to open the Mexican market.
Staff from both Sagarpa, Mexico's Ministry of Agriculture, and Economia, Mexico's Ministry of Economy, attended the meeting.
