Syngenta announced a donation of $4,000 to Feeding America, the nation's largest organization dedicated to fighting domestic hunger through a network of 205 food banks. The donation signifies the end of the campaign which ran between Oct. 7 and Nov. 20 and allowed consumers to add to the Syngenta donation by viewing the Syngenta Healthy Potato Commercial. Syngenta donated approximately $2.25 per view; the video received 1,762 views prior to the campaign ending.
"Syngenta is so pleased to be able to help spread the word about the health value of potatoes and simultaneously contribute to Feeding America during this holiday season," said Mary DeMers, horticulture communication manager at Syngenta Crop Protection. "We hope many families have a happier holiday thanks to the potatoes purchased from our donation."
In an effort to educate consumers on the healthy benefits of eating potatoes, Syngenta, the National Potato Council and the United States Potato Board created the 30-second commercial. The video, which remains posted on YouTube, highlights that the potato has many health benefits, including being fat free, rich in vitamins and having approximately 100 calories per serving.
"We're always pleased when public organizations can find synergy in what they're doing and giving back to those in need," said Karen Hanner, vice president of cause marketing at Feeding America. "This holiday donation by Syngenta will help put potatoes on many people's plates this holiday season."
