GREENSBORO, N.C., May 5, 2008-Syngenta Crop Protection has once again partnered with five universities located in key potato regions to bring blight hotlines to growers in 2008.

The annual potato blight hotlines provide growers with access to disease information, a resource to people in the industry who want to stay one step ahead of disease pressure in their areas.

Beginning this month, growers can call the toll-free hotline and receive up-to-date information regarding current weather patterns, recommended control measures and disease infection confirmations.

The hotlines, sponsored by Syngenta Crop Protection, are managed by researchers in Idaho, Washington, Oregon, North Dakota and Michigan and will be accessible around the clock.

The potato blight hotlines are available by calling:

  • Idaho 1-800-791-7195
  • Michigan 1-888-379-9012
  • North Dakota 1-888-482-7286
  • Oregon 1-800-705-3377
  • Washington 1-800-984-7400

"The blight hotlines are an excellent source of information for our growers and provide them with the information they need to make timely and smart disease management decisions," commented Bruce Odens, Syngenta potato crop manager.

"Syngenta is committed to the potato industry at all levels, offering value beyond products through services and support, such as the potato disease hotlines. We look forward to continuing the hotlines each year to help ensure a healthy potato crop for all growers."

Early blight and late blight can cause significant economic loss if left unchecked, but control of the damaging diseases is possible. The blight hotlines help growers accurately protect against these serious diseases by offering them the latest information for their area.
