The Washington State Potato Conference and trade show is changing venues after 47 years.

The event's board voted unanimously to move the 2009 event to the Tri-Cities Convention Center in Kennewick from Moses Lake.

Board chair Mike Dodds says event attendees told the board they wanted better facilities and to have the trade show at the same location as the conference.

"We did research, ran the numbers and engaged in a lot of discussion to reach this decision," Dodds says. "We need to make it the best show and conference for the industry."

Space restrictions in Moses Lake had forced organizers to run the event out of two venues since 2006. The seminars and programs were held at Big Bend Community College, while the trade show was at the Grant County Fairgrounds.

The 2009 event will be held from Jan. 26 to Jan. 28.
