Potato Growers of Idaho members voted today for the organization's responsibilities to be turned over to the Idaho Potato Commission. In another motion, an interim committee was approved to oversee the possibilities related to the continuation of a political action committee to represent the interests of growers.

Along with changes that will come to the IPC in assuming roles held by PGI is the new position of industry relations director and the formation of three committees to handle industry issues.

The industry relations director will work with the committees and with CEO Frank Muir. The individual who will be selected as director is to "be a voice, advocate and promoter of the IPC, and resolve concerns that the industry would have with the IPC," according to the June 19-20 "Selection Committee Report." The individual filling the position may be named by Sept. 1.

The committees, comprised of members of existing industry groups and open to those who are not, each have an identified focus. One is for agricultural affairs, another is for promotion and trade and another for research and education.

The motions passed during a session of the All Grower Summer Meeting held in the Shilo Inn Suites Hotel in Idaho Falls, Idaho. The interim committee is to function until Aug. 31, which is the end of the fiscal year.
