Input Being Taken On 2007 Farm Bill

Growers in eastern Idaho are being given a rare opportunity to give advance input into the 2007 Farm Bill.

A meeting has been set on Tuesday, September 6, from 1-4 p.m. in Blackfoot, ID, to draw comments on what's working and what's not working, according to Wayne Hammon, Idaho Farm Service Agency state executive director.

It will take place in the West Event Center Free Stage during the Eastern Idaho State Fair.

Hammond wants to know how farm  policy should address unintended consequences and ensure that consequences do not discourge new farmers and the next generation of farmers from entering production agriculture.

In addition, Hammon and the USDA want to know how policy can be maximized to increase U.S. competitiveness to compete globally;
--How should the program deliver assistance
--How to best achieve conservation and environmental goals
--How to provide effective assistance in rural areas
--What should be done to help develop better marketing and agriculture research.
