Senate Finance Committee staff working on the Highway Bill conference are reporting that Chairman Thomas and his staff working on the conference committee have not had a single contact from any other member of the House supporting the repeal of the federal excise tax for bulk beds.

"Without immediate contacts from potato state members of the house, we are in real danger of losing this provision from the bill," said John Keeling executive director of the National Potato Council. "Chairman Thomas is not inclined to include the repeal of the excise tax in the final transportation bill and if he can point to a lack of support for the provision he will be able to justify eliminating it."

Growers and industry members are encouraged to contact their congressmen to support keeping the repeal of the excise tax in the final transportation bill.
