On this website last December 16, Potato Grower magazine website editor published a news item stating that the Tri-State Development program was in jeopardy because "bootlegged" material from the seed program was being used without license or the payment of royalties.

Relying upon a statement made by Ashton, ID, seed grower Clen Atchley, chairman of the Tri-state program at the December Potato Growers of Idaho meeting, it was wrongly and inaccurately reported that McCain Foods of Canada had used the Alturas variety without paying compensation. Atchley denies McCain Foods ever acted wrongly.

Potato Grower web site unequivocally withdraws any statement against McCain Foods. Potato Grower web site has learned that McCain Foods has been a model participant in all aspects of the Tri-State Development program.

Potato Grower web site deeply regrets any harm done and embarrassment to McCain Foods.
