U of I Potato Conference Set For January 19-20

University of Idaho's annual Potato Conference will be held Wednesday and Thursday, January 19-20, at Idaho State University in Pocatello, ID.

"Stay on Track with Your Potatoes," will be the theme of this year's conference, which will include a presentation by Patrick Moore, a founding member of GreenPeace and who now promotes sustainability and consensus-building among competing concerns.

It will also feature an industry panel of representatives from McCain's, Potandon and Basic American Foods who will tell producers how to get the best possible raw product prices for freshpacking, processing and dehydration.

Keith Esplin, executive director of the Potato Growers of Idaho, will join the panel to describe PGI's Best Management Practices Checklist and opportunities to market in Mexico.

In addition, Albert Wada, a grower/shipper of Pingree, ID, chairman of the newly formed United Fresh Potato Growers of Idaho, will make a presentation on the formation of a "super cooperative."

Pre-registration is $15 for in-state and $75 for out-of-state attendees. At the door it will be $20 for in-state and $90 for out-of-state.

The conference will begin on Wednesday, January 19, at 8 a.m. and conclude at noon on Thursday, January 20.
