Northern Plains Potato growers have a unique promotion going for this Halloween. Instead of giving candy, they'll give one-ounce bags of potato chips.

Most of the potatoes grown in the area are "chippers" so the silent promotion will serve two needs. It will help support their own industry and provide a way to treat the kids.

NPPGA office secretary Sara says deadline for ordering a case of 58 bags at $8 is Friday. Growers in the NPPGA area--who can pick the orders up from the office in East Grand Forks, MN--can participate.

For other growers? The idea is a good one to support the potato industry so there are small packs that may be purchased at supermarkets that will work just as well.
