Water Issues Continue In Idaho

Even though the Idaho Falls/Rexburg areas in eastern Idaho received over 1.77 inches of rainfall to this day in June, the temperatures have now climbed into the '80s during the day and are again shrinking water supplies.

Rexburg has received 1.80 inches of rain thus far in June, the highest amount for any weather recording station in Idaho. Idaho Falls is right behind at 1.77.
No other recording station in the Snake River Plain has recorded more than half an inch. Grace, ID, received nearly a half inch at .47.

Soil moisture in the state was reported to be 26 percent short, 72 percent adequate and 2 percent surplus.

With grain crops now heading out, most irrigators will be able to use short water storage supplies on  row crops, including potatoes.

As of June 21, 93 percent of the state's potato crop had emerged. The figure was 90 percent for eastern Idaho. These numbers are just one percentage point below state averages.
