Fifth World Potato Congress set for Kunming, Yunnan Province, China, March 24-30 is shaping up to be a very information and interesting event.

Lloyd Palmer, president and CEO, says plans are going well and the host planning committee is ready to show potato delegates/administrators their area.

The Government of Yunnan Province as well as the Central Government in Beijing are strong supporters of the Congress and have heavily subsidized the work of the Host Committee.

The main program and trade and technology show will be held for three days beginning March 26. Registration of delegates and accompanying persons takes place on March 24-25.

The Congress of Golf Classic will be held on Thursday, March 25. The opening reception will be that evening.

It is expected that delegates from over 50 countries will attend and that numbers will surpass 1,000.

Sessions and the Trade and Technology Show will be held in the very modern Kunming International Trade Center.

The Congress has been set up to be of interest to all segments of the global potato industry, and will feature world leaders as speakers. Topics include Production Trends and Food Demand to 2020, the Role of Biotechnology in Potato Production, and Environmental and Food Safety issues related to Biotechnology.

Regional reports will be given on the potato situation in each continent.
