Potato Growers of Idaho, making a report on the condition of the crop just put into storage, says the crop from one side of the state to the other is a `mixed bag' this year.
PGI says there are reports of rough potatoes caused by record-setting hot weather and a lack of irrigation. Diseases hurt some areas. But on the whole, the crop came in with a decent size profile and good quality.
There are reports, according to PGI, of a huge sale of potatoes at a good price already this fall. No details were given. Speculation is that it went to one of the small grower co-ops that pack potatoes in three or four different sheds from over 30 growers.
Estimates on storage numbers have not yet been made but are expected shortly.
