Growers in Prince Edward Island province of eastern Canada are pleased with the marketing of the 2002 crop.

The seed growers produced and sold 157,760 cwt to date this year compared to 56,487 in 2001-2002. This compares to zero shipped from the 2000-2001 crop because of potato wart. Most of the seed goes to Florida and North Carolina.

In the table stock category, sales have totaled 3,055,265 as compared to 1,437,934 in 2002. PEI's biggest table stock purchases went to Massachusetts, New York, Pennsylvania and Puerto Rico.

Seed and table stock together totaled 3,213,025, a 115 percent increase over 2001-2002.

Seed potato shipments to the rest of the world showed a slight drop.
