Confusion has been generated off a news announcement by the EPA that it was canceling all uses of diazinon.

One registrant, Syngenta, had asked for the cancellation of that company's diazinon products. However, Makheshim Agan of North America says the organophosphate diazinon will still be available through its distributors.

The EPA had released an Interim Re-registration Eligibility Decision for diazinon last year that extended the registration of diazinon for agricultural uses indefinitely with some proposed label changes. The IRED does not include indoor or outdoor residential use.

"We're working with the EPA on these label changes and remain committed to maintaining the registration of diazinon for agricultural uses for the foreseeable future," said Hugh Brooks, product manager for MANA.

The product is registered for use against soilborne and foliar insect pests on a variety of crops.
