Canada's Customs and Revenue Agency is slapping import duties on United States potatoes that reach as high as $3 and $4 per cwt.

The CCRA in its August 5-10 report showed it was levying $4.01 on Idaho's five- and 10-pound mesh bags by cwt. The rate on Idaho's five- and 10-pound film bags was $3.87/cwt.

Washington/Oregon and California are three other states whose brokers/shippers are being hit with tariffs. Washington/Oregon's five- and 10-pound film bags face a $2.87/cwt charge. California's five- and 10-pound film bags face a $1.87/cwt tax.

The rates have gone up markedly since April. Tariffs then on Idaho, Washington/Oregon and California five- and 10-pound film bags were $2.37 (Washington and Oregon), to $.87 in California, and $1.51 in Idaho.
