Growers in Franklin, Benton, Grant and Walla Walla counties in Washington and Umatilla and Morrow counties of Oregon have reported late blight conditions.
Growers who haven't yet detected blight should be aware of the outbreaks and begin fungicide treatments to prevent the disease from entering their fields.
DuPont officials state that if growers will begin a Curzate 60DF program, it should control all late blight strains, including the aggressive US-8 strain, have two- to three-day post-infection curative activity or "kick-back," give six-day residual control when combined with a contact partner, and becomes rain fast two hours after application.
Other control methods are also suggested. In fact growers are cautioned to rotate the fungicides they choose to use so that resistance is not built up.
