Brisbane developed and manufactured potato chip has potato growers and the Australian industry smiling.

The chip has now broken into markets with the Philippines and New Zealand.

The OK Real Potato Chip brand, developed and owned by Freer Foods, has been the culmination of a A$4 million investment. It has created 50 jobs.

What sets this chip apart is that it is a nutritional low-fat and no-cholesterol potato chip. It is made with real potatoes.

The company has lately added salt and vinegar as well as bacon and black pepper to its flavors. The chip is a 97 percent fat-free product. It was developed with assistance from the Queensland government. Regular chips contain 33 percent fat.

Snack foods are worth more than A$500 million in Australia a year. Potato-based snack foods take 54 percent of the total value and are growing at a rate of 4 percent a year.
