Although optimism abounds in the Prince Edward Island, Can., potato industry, exports to Europe and South America are very light this year.

Ivan Noonan, executive director of the PEI Potato Board says Toronto table stock prices were $14/cwt. He reported sales and prices to be up throughout North America.

He added that processing buys are also up with prices to growers around $12/cwt.

Noonan said up until the end of December 9 million cwt was used in processing and shipping. He says there is about 19 million cwt left in storage. “That will go soon,” Noonan stated.
