It’s official. Idaho Agricultural Statistics Service reduced planted acres in Idaho downward 20,000 acres over previously set estimates for the 2002 crop.
The good news came with today’s production report which also showed that warm early fall weather was very beneficial to the Idaho crop.
A statewide yield of 358 cwt (field-run basis) is up 13 percent from a year ago. Eastern Idaho growers had an average yield of 350 cwt. Both are above estimates.
The IASS says total Idaho potato production will total 133 million cwt this year. The crop is described as “a quality crop” with very few internal defects or disease problems.
