McDonald’s is going to remove its signature golden arches from 30 of its 81 outlets in Beijing.

The move follows a decision by the Beijing government to remove outdoor advertising found incompatible with local neighborhoods.

“We are talking with relevant government departments on this issue,” a chain spokesman said. “We will respect government regulations and act accordingly.”

McDonald’s opened its first restaurant in China in 1990. It expanded to Beijing two years later. It has some 360 outlets in China.
