The greenhouse management class at Alamosa High School in Alamosa, Colo., recently harvested its annual certified seed potato crop.

AHS’s agricultural educations department says it is the only high school in the country to plant and harvest a certified seed potato crop. Local growers Matt Seger and Brendon Rockey supply the original seed, which is grown in the greenhouse during the winter months and provides guidance and education to Leeann Hitsman’s greenhouse management class. Seger and Rockey then buy the seed potatoes back from the AHS ag department to be planted in their own fields.
