A bumper crop of pre-sized small potatoes and the popularity of wintertime Crock Pot cooking have led to the return of MountainKing’s Crock Around the Clock promotion, providing retail grocers the opportunity to capitalize on the uptick of petite B red and gold sales.

The promotion of MountainKing’s three-pound bags of B Reds and Buttery Bite Golds is available through Feb. 28. Tailored recipe cards, point-of-sale signage and ad-ready artwork for prompt publication are also available. Each 3-pound bag of MountainKing’s B Reds and Gold Buttery Bites contains eight to 10 servings, with retail pricing from $2.99 to $3.99.

MountainKing will also reward Insta Pot slow cookers to the top-performing participating produce managers.

“Last year, this promotion just took off,” says John Pope, MountainKing’s vice president of sales and marketing. “The good news is all signs point to another strong winter for small-sized golds and reds.”

This year, MountainKing’s sales of 3-pound bags are up 11 percent, small rds are up 9 percent, and small golds are up 7 percent, according to Pope. He says customers pay up to two times more per pound for small bags, a rate that translates up to $38,000 in incremental sales lift per load.

Ideal for slow cooking, the pre-sized small varieties also can be boiled, steamed roasted or smashed. Plus, they require no peeling.

MountainKing Potatoes is one of the world’s largest growers of high-flavor potato varieties. Currently, about 1 million U.S. households use MountainKing products every week.
