The Idaho Potato Commission has renewed its sponsorship of the Famous Idaho Potato Bowl college football game for $450,000 annually.
The Capital Press reported in a story last week that the IPC agreed to a five-year extension. The commission has sponsored the game since 2011.
IPC president Frank Muir says a recent study by an independent group found the media value of the sponsorship at $13 million annually. He says 2 million viewers watch the game, which that he says is essentially a four-hour infomercial about Idaho potatoes.
The IPC says the football conferences represented (Mountain West and Mid-American) in the bowl game include four of the five largest potato-consuming states in the country.
In this year’s game, held on Dec. 22, Wyoming defeated Central Michigan 37-14.
