Potato dishes remain a top menu item in foodservice, with a steady increase of 11 percent over that past five years since Q4 2007 to Q4 2012, demonstrating restaurants continue to increase potato offerings on menus in order to meet consumer tastes. Of the restaurants surveyed, casual dining and family/midscale restaurants consistently menu the most potato items, 48 percent and 35 percent respectively.

Three additional restaurant segments, Quick Service Restaurants, fast casual and fine dining also included more potato offerings on menus. In the fourth quarter of 2012, the most popular potato sides were french fries, french-cut and mashed potatoes. The USPB's foodservice team, in conjunction with Mintel, will continue to monitor and report on menu activity.
