JUNEAU, Alaska (AP)-A state audit says Alaska's attempt to grow a business exporting seed potatoes probably is not a viable enterprise.

The Juneau Empire (http://

The fact that Alaska has virus-free potatoes, and can certify them as such to the satisfaction of Asian buyers, spurred hopes of developing a billion dollar market since 1994.

Bryce Wrigley, president of the Alaska Farm Bureau, says Alaska is the only state from which Taiwan and China will accept seed potatoes. He says he does not argue with the audit's findings, but says the situation remains a tremendous opportunity for Alaska.
