AUGUSTA, Maine-A day after signing a bill that streamlines state regulations, Maine Gov. Paul LePage has signed a bill into law eliminating redundant notifications related to pesticide applications.
The measure repeals a 2009 law requiring pesticide applicators to provide advance notice of aerial pesticide applications to those who listed their property on a public registry. An existing law in effect since 1998 already provided Maine citizens with the right to be notified.
Clark Granger of the Maine Farm Bureau said the one-size-fits-all approach of the new law didn't seem to work as well as the older law already on the books.
LePage said the existing law was less burdensome and did the same thing. He called it "another example of good, commonsense regulatory reform."
