The Prince Edward Island Potato Board is considering permanently reducing potato acreage to bolster prices and reduce oversupply. The board implemented one-year voluntary buy downs for growers in the Canadian province over the last two years and some growers have suggested making these reductions permanent.

PEI growers cut production by some 8,500 acres last year and 9,500 acres the year before. A series of meetings will be held throughout PEI in mid-January to discuss the proposal.
