Figures recently released by the USDA's National Agricultural Statistics Service show that grower proceeds from the 2002 United States potato crop totaled $2,831,698,000.

The fall production section of that total amounted to $2,243,100,000. This includes fall production from 22 states.

Average price per cwt received by growers from the total production was $6.69. The fall figure per cwt was $5.91.

States receiving the highest per cwt return on their crops included New York, Ohio and Pennsylvania. New York's per cwt return to growers averaged out at $11.80, Ohio's figure was $10.30 and Pennsylvania came in at $9.15.

Among the largest fall production states, Montana leads the field with $8.25 per cwt. Behind them is Wisconsin at $6.90. Colorado and North Dakota received $6.25 per cwt. In the Pacific Northwest the averages were: Oregon, $5.65, Washington, $5.55, and Idaho, $5.
