Shippers Now Do Inspections

In what is believed to be the first such attempt in North America, the Canadian federal government has let New Brunswick shipping companies take over inspection of potatoes.

Packing plants and shippers will now conduct their own quality assurance programs.

Canadian officials say it has taken seven years to get the change.
