Colorado Has Sprouting Potatoes

Colorado's San Luis Valley growers will dump about 2 million cwt of potatoes because of the flat market and the fact potatoes were sprouting in storage.

A Colorado potato industry observer said these were high-quality potatoes.

With the 2003 harvest starting to come in, growers had no choice but to clean out their storages for the new crop.

The 2002 crop was held in smaller storage units without refrigeration.
