According to the Maine Potato News, growers were finally able to get into their fields in late May to begin planting this year's crop.

Mother Nature didn't want to cooperate as the area was hit by cool, wet weather far into the planting season.

Growers say it's the latest planting date in 32 years. Despite this, growers were moving fast and all hoped to be planted by June 14.

As a rule of thumb, most growers try to be done planting by the end of May.
